Remote working: Telecommuting from the trenches
This 45-minute presentation was given at the ASTC(NSW) 2012 annual conference, held in November in Sydney, Australia. Variations of it were presented at a webinar for TCANZ (February 2013), at the Society of Editors (WA) Winter Seminar (August 2014; Perth), at the EAPAA Conference (August 2014; Sydney), and at the American Copy Editors Society annual conference (March 2015, Pittsburgh).
This presentation focuses on my experiences since February 2007 when I started working entirely from home, and highlights:
- the positives and negatives of working from home
- some technologies that will allow you to work from home
- home office essentials.
The audience is technical writers, technical communicators, and editors — an audience whose occupation is well-suited to working from home at least a part of the time.
